Dance Concert opening this weekend!

Hey all-

This weekend Contradiction Dance is opening its winter concert, Boundaries,
at the Anacostia Arts Center.

You should see this show. No, seriously. You should. Over the summer, I
performed in a show with Contradiction that featured a brief piece that was
a response to the #yesallwomen hashtag that had taken over Twitter and
other social media. Put simply: it was the best piece of that show and
Kelly wanted to expand it into a full concert.

Fast forward three months and I finish my poi-related travels for the year.
Kelly asks me if I want to be a part of the show and I agree, coming into
rehearsals to see what the other dancers had been working on for the past
few weeks. Not only was I impressed, I was moved. The dance is beautiful,
as it always is when Kelly is choreographing (this show features movement
that rivals my previous favorite piece she choreographed, 2011's Objects of
Hope), but what really makes this show special is the things the dancers
are sharing onstage.

This is the most personal content I've ever seen the company share...many
of the stories we're putting onstage are the stories, traumas,
catastrophes, and victories that have made us who we are as human beings.
Being in rehearsals has on occasion led to tears, laughter, and an
incredible amount of mutual support as we go through the difficult task of
presenting this work for the stage. This show is one of the most incredible
journeys I've been on as an artist and I can't wait to share it with you
all.

Shows like this are the reason I devoted my life to art. Please come out as
support it.
