sex-positive, dance-loving, cooperative house.

> ABOUT THE ROOMS:
>
>
> (1) A 330-square-foot room on the 3rd floor. It’s enormous, and the
prettiest room in the house, with tons of floor space and great
south-facing windows. We are looking for a couple for this room, though we
may consider single people as well. Rent for a couple is $1200. Utilities
are $75-100/person/month. Includes a typically sized closet and shares the
jacuzzi tub bathroom and a double shower with the other room on the third
floor and guests in our garrett.

> (2) One 230-square-foot room on the 2nd floor. It’s very large, and has
great south-facing windows, a nook, and a closet. Rent is $750 for a single
person. Utilities are $75-100/person/month.
>
>
> Both rooms can be rented semi-furnished.
>
>
> We enjoy a community with low turnover, and are looking for a commitment
of one year.
>
>
> ABOUT THE HOUSE:
>
>
> We are a five-minute walk from the Georgia Ave-Petworth metro stop. It’s
a diverse neighborhood, called Park View, with a number of cool restaurants
and a new Safeway. If you have a car, free on-street parking is relatively
easy to find.
>
> The Keep has five bedrooms, one giant guest space, one half-bedroom, and
three full bathrooms (including a Jacuzzi tub)!
>
> The first floor has a big open floor plan with a living room space, a
large dining table, and a giant kitchen with two fridges, a freezer, and
plenty of storage space.
>
> We have a garage with tons of bikes and a (small) bike workshop, a small
yard and patio with a gas grill, plots in a local community garden, and we
compost.
>
> We dumpster-dive about 75% of the food we eat and share it! The food is
sourced from high-end supermarkets and is of shockingly high quality. We
also provide a fridge and storage spaces for private food.
>
> We all chip in to clean through an informal chore system and regular
cleaning parties. All housemates are expected to help out with cleaning,
and be generally neat.
>
> We currently have no pets. We are welcoming of dogs, but are allergic to
cats.
>
> No cigarette smoking indoors. We enjoy alcohol in moderation.
>
>
> ABOUT THE HOUSEMATES AND HOUSE CULTURE:
>
>
> The Keep is home to 6-7 housemates, along with friends who like to visit
often—we love hosting guests.
>
> We are all in our mid-twenties to early thirties—currently three men and
woman. We are close friends, and like to think of the house as an inclusive
chosen family. We are committed to sharing our lives and inviting new
people to join them.
>
> We are LGBTQ-friendly and sex-positive, and many of the housemates are
queer and/or polyamorous.
>
> We love the environment, biking, composting, gardening, dancing,
community living, feminism, and social justice.
>
> Professionally, we are a government policy wonk, an entrepreneur with a
successful driving company, a web programmer, and a massage therapist.
>
> All current housemates love social dance—mostly blues, contra, and
fusion. You don’t have to be a dancer to live here, but we will invite you
to dance with us and hope you’ll take take us up on the offer. We like to
throw parties—dance parties, singing parties, dinner parties, cuddle
parties, cleaning parties. We throw big 100-person dance parties about once
a season.
>
> Some of the housemates are working to form an egalitarian, income-sharing
commune in DC, though not in this house. The Keep supports this effort and
and is excited to see the project come to life. New housemates are in no
way expected to be a part of this, but it is something that you can plug
into if you want to.
>
> We are looking for housemates who are excited about sharing in the
cleaning, cooking, organizing, and mutual support that goes into making the
Keep a loving home and community hub.
