Burning Rubber: A Forum on Buying, Selling, and Getting the Most out of Motor Vehicles
Our own Brewster Thackeray will be having a meet up tomorrow
at the
Glowhouse
This is a forum I’ve wanted to share with the DC Burner Community for a
while. I hope you will join me if you are thinking of buying a car, selling
a car, or improving your automotive experience; or if you or someone you
know might someday be in such a situation.
We will touch on the following topics, and go into depth where YOU want!
• How to buy a car. Determining what makes and models suit your life and
wallet, new or used. Whether to look for cars at a dealer or from private
sellers. How to negotiate to get your best deal.
• How to sell a car. Confirming if it is time to move on or not. Whether to
consider trading in. Determining what your car is worth. How to list and
promote your car for sale.
• How to reduce the costs of repairs and maintenance. When to invest in a
repair versus cutting your losses.
• How to make your car your loving partner. How to detail and care for your
car. How to protect your investment.
• Thinking outside the box: Making the case for the car you want – or for
not having a car at all!
I want to thank Darrell and the Glow House for giving us a place to meet
that is accessible with or without wheels (it’s right near Metro). Full
details and directions are at http://glowhouse.org/
I’ll
bring some light snacks to share.
If there is interest, I will be glad to repeat this presentation at
Makepeace Manor in Alexandria and in suburban Maryland so no pressure if
you're interested and can't make this conveniently.
My creds as your presenter: I’ve been a Burner since 2007 and co-founded
the Breakfast Club Detention Camp and the Makepeace Manor intentional
community. I’ve been a life-long car nut. I’ve done or managed just about
any kind of road trip, repair, or car-related thing. I was a car salesman
and the sales manager for a new and used car dealership. I belong to five
collector car clubs and was national president of one. Most of all, I’m
that guy that friends and family look to for free advice when a car
question comes up and I enjoy that role since it puts my knowledge to use.
