Hi Kallisti,

To answer your question, the BRC Census is a collaboration between Burning
Man Project and a group of independent academics. We support them with
resources and access and they have an academic IRB certification from
University of Denver to conduct research and publish unbiased results. The
Census questions themselves are a combination of questions from BMP and
questions from the academic researchers for their own work.

Additionally, the accuracy of the Census has been improving each year as
methodology improves, especially since the team started weighting the
online survey results with a random sample from the event in 2013. The 2015
BRC Census (results to be published very soon!) has a confidence interval
of 95% and a 1% of a margin of error for many of the data sets. This is by
far the best data anyone has on the makeup of BRC in a given year.

We've been exploring options for bringing some of these tools to the
Regional groups to help gather information and have been working casually
with a few groups over the last few years. Hopefully over the next year
we'll have something that we can offer to RC and regional event producers.

Cheers,

Zac
