Subject: seeking movement artist
To: Jennifer Richter
Hello,
My name is Rocky Jones. I am a musician who wants to work with a movement
artist of some kind, maybe someone who does hooping, contortion,
bellydance, flow art, or other graceful movement art — at a performance
level — mostly for festival gigs, maybe also art openings and indoor
music-venue gigs. Perhaps eventually conferences and retreats.
My music is improvised, so someone with performance improvising skills is
needed.
Though I don't strictly do bellydance music, I tend to think that a
talented bellydance artist might complement my music well. Contortion could
be a good fit, because I find the work of a good contortionist absolutely
mesmerizing (think Cirque Du Soleil or Mummenschanz); the meditative
soundscapes that I create would transform into something so much greater
with someone doing something of that nature.
* About the Spaces:* Important: Some performances would be done in small
spaces, so this would have to be someone who could keep it interesting with
hardly more than two steps in any direction.
* About Pay: *Based on my gigs so far, I expect some I will be able to pay
between $50-150, and other gigs will be tips-only for me and my movement
artist.
* When:* Periodically but not weekly or monthly.
*Where: *I have performed at First Sunday Arts Festival in Annapolis, and I
have an open invitation for paid work there. Also an open invitation for
paid work at the Maryland Faerie Festival. And a tips-only open invitation
for the deck of the Wheel Clothing store in North Beach for the Farmers
Market season.
I am looking for an adult, someone who is good-hearted and reasonably
bright, who has a good measure of talent, professionalism, and interest in
this kind of performance. I have worked with Shapeshifter (a hoop dancer),
and plan to again when the opportunity happens. If you know her, she might
serve as a reference if you want to ask her about me. I have other
references upon request.
These Youtube music samples, though limited to guitar loops with some hints
of voice, show as mall part of the spectrum of what I do:
