Destruction of Bruce Monroe Park TOMORROW

Tomorrow morning the DC council will be voting to declare the park at Georgia/Irving/Columbia Rd as surplus property to make way for a developer to build a 120ft tall building in addition to other buildings on the site.

Whatever space that is left after that (currently down to 40%) has not been officially committed to be anything but "park or other public uses" and will be reconfigured so that nothing of what is there now will remain intact.

Please call the council, send email or letters, and/or show up to the hearing building:

Tuesday Nov 29 at 10am in the Wilson Building
1350 Pennsylvania Ave NW, room 412.

Phil Mendelson, Chairman: (202) 724-8032

Brianne Nadeau, Ward 1: (202) 724-8181

Mary Cheh, Committee Chairman: (202) 724-8062

Muriel Bowser, Mayor: (202) 727-2643

Here's what to tell them:

Why you and your family love the park and want it to stay the same size it is now

What you don't like about the development and the problems it will cause -- traffic, parking, density, scale, etc.

How the city's flawed process left out large segments of the community and does not reflect your thoughts and concerns

Postpone making a decision about the park. Let the community weigh in about the future of the park.

If you are planning on speaking at the meeting in person email your name, address, and that you wish to testify at the hearing on the Bruce Monroe surplus to cow@dccouncil.usas soon as possible.

1. Use this email tool to contact our Councilmembers and Mayor. There’s a sample email in the form, which you can modify however you like: http://www.activist.one/brucemonroe/  Please change the subject line so staff will know you’re a real person.
