The Art of Burning Man at the Hermitage- Participation Invitation
The Art of Burning Man at the Hermitage- Participation Invitation
A note from Melissa Ball, Public Programs Manager:
Hello from the Hermitage Museum & Gardens in Norfolk, Virginia! This
summer, the Hermitage Museum is hosting the first formal exhibition
dedicated to The Art of Burning Man, opening June 3rd, 2017. This
exhibition will feature large-scale, outdoor installations and interactive
indoor works from six Burning Man artist teams. Artists include Michael
Garlington, Kirsten Berg, Charles Gadeken, James Peterson, Gregg
Fleishmann, and Five Ton Crane.
This exhibition is inspired by the Principles of Burning Man, highlighting
Radical Inclusion, Participation, Immediacy, and Radical Self-Expression.
Throughout the 4-month run of this exhibition, the Hermitage will host a
series of Burning Man Nights, family days, and other events to encourage
participation and provide our audience with opportunities to step out of
their comfort zones and enjoy a shared experience through art.
We are inviting artists, Burners, Burner groups, organizations and
individuals to get involved and to submit proposals for interactive
contributions that will enhance the experience of visiting this exhibition
during our special events. These contributions would be similar to theme
camp offerings during the Burning Man event.
We would be so appreciative if you would be willing to include this
information in an announcement or help us spread the word to your
community. I have attached a proposal form (links below) which includes
more details about our exhibition and the programs as well as the
guidelines for contributions. I have also attached our press release
announcing the exhibition.
Thank you so very much!
