Casting Call! "Makepeace Manor: Season Five" reality (non-televised) show
Have you watched reality TV shows and said, "I'm as interesting as any of
those people. Just drop me in some unique house with a hot tub (gotta have
a hot tub!) with a crew of worthwhile, innovative, creative, outrageous,
exciting people and let me shine!"
Well here's your chance. And you won't even have to sign a release form,
nor worry about Aunt Tilly flipping channels late at night and seeing you
... in said hot tub. Nope, we don't roll (film) that way. But, we do want
to invite you to audition if you think that you could contribute to and
benefit from being in the cast of "Makepeace Manor: Season Five."
Makepeace Manor, our four year-old intentional community in Alexandria, VA,
has an immediate opening for an innovator or two to move in! If you are
looking for a space in which to grow individually and to build rapport with
like-minded people, living your daily life in alignment with Burning Man's
10 Principles, this could be an opportunity worth exploring. As an
intentional community, we're populated by people who want to be around
others, interact, and grow from the experience.
Makepeace Manor is located inside the Beltway, convenient to public
transportation (especially bus), and to Routes 395 and 495. We have two
houses on our acre of land, a big yard suitable for fire spinning, campouts
and bocce ball, a massive garden plot, space for art and creativity, a
great hall with a fireplace, movie screen and vintage 1903 piano, two
kitchens, laundry facilities, a dance hall, tons of parking, a six-person
hot tub, an exercise dance pole, a soda machine, a balance beam, and a
trampoline. Life at Makepeace is sometimes placid, sometimes rocking (like
when Rawk, Paper, Scissors practices here), and rarely boring. We are
within walking distance of Green Spring Gardens park, the Foxfire Grill,
and Flippin' Pizza, and we're across the street from the Lincolnia Park
Recreation Club, which has a huge swimming pool and tennis courts. We're
1.5 miles from a major shopping center with Giant, Gold's Gym etc., and a
quick, direct shot into Old Town and DC.
We are zoned for up to eight residents, but six has been our average number
so far. The four residents who are continuing here are interesting,
friendly, creative people. All residents share a commitment to keeping
common areas indoors and out presentable and improving them when we can,
joining in events as Makepeace serves the larger Burner community, and
supporting each other in friendship. We are committed to keeping excellent
relations with our neighbors. If you are the kind of person who puts your
whole enthusiastic self into a project because you have learned that doing
so will result in the greatest rewards -- then you might just find a
livable community is a worthy and exciting opportunity.
One residence space that is available is a small upstairs bedroom, our
uniquely-shaped "princess in a tower" space. It is shaped and painted to
resemble a circus tent and has nice wood floors and a built-in bed, a
closet and window. There is also a larger closet/entry space. Its tariff is
$680 ALL-INCLUSIVE.
The Feb. 1 opening is a big, bright room with windows on three sides and a
closet. Its tariff is $850 for one person or slightly more for a couple,
ALL-INCLUSIVE.
Housing payments at Makepeace INCLUDE your utilities (water, heat,
electricity, trash and recycling, FIOS internet, and hot tub chemicals).
Utilities are included so they are constant and predictable for residents
each month rather than variable. Pets are on a case-by-case basis, and
require all residents' unanimous approval. (We currently have one big
friendly cat.)
Residents who are interested and talented with handyperson, groundskeeping,
or project management may at times have opportunities for rebates on
housing costs in exchange for upgrading the place or keeping it in good
working order.
Makepeace Manor balances its roles as a home, a resource for DC-area
Burners, and a place where residents build and explore community beyond
typical group house dynamics.
Please contact Brewster at Brewster.vonThyme@gmail.com or 703/508-4418 if
you are interested in learning more or exploring the opportunities of
Makepeace! We'll be glad to share the details, and arrange for enthusiastic
candidates to meet with us. As an intentional community, our interview
process is designed to facilitate a free-flowing exchange of ideas to
ensure a great fit for all. Thanks for reading!
