People keep asking to leave the announce and discussion lists, and keep getting the response "manage your settings with the link at the bottom of the message". It seems obvious that if this were an adequate answer, there wouldn't be so many people asking for help. The fact is that many (most) of us were added to the list without actually creating an account, and don't have log in information.
Blue posted a while ago with the helpful suggestion to enter the email address that receives the messages, and request a new password. Even so, there are still barriers:
- When one clicks on the "manage" link in their email, the first thing that pops up isn't the log-in page where someone could request a new password... it is an "Access Denied" message.
- Even if someone obtains a new password, their really is no way to "leave" the group. There is a check box to "Unsubscribe", but if you check it, you get a message that says "you can't unsubscribe because you own the group".
- What you can do (once you access your group settings), is to set your email settings to "no email". This choice can't be seen, since it is in a drop down menu, and it is also not an obvious solution since there is an "unsubscribe" check box right there next to it. Additionally, it is unsatisfying to anyone who might have a reason to not want to be a member of the group any longer (rather than just not receiving messages).

I don't have an account so is there anyway I can unsubscribe since I moved from area?
Would be nice to unsubscribe since I can't go to any of the events.

That link is http://dcburners.org/join/password
